Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille struck two times late to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
